Deck Builder Sydney
How we approach decking
A deck is only as good as what is underneath it. We set out footings and bearers to the site, level the subframe carefully and keep joist spacing right for the board you choose, so the finished deck sits flat and stays that way.
Boards are cut on site to the actual house, so ends line up with walls, posts and existing decking. When we extend or repair an existing deck, new boards are matched and cut in place so joins are tidy rather than obvious.
Hardwood looks rich and is hard-wearing but needs oiling; treated pine is economical; composite needs little maintenance but has its own joist-spacing and gapping rules from the manufacturer. We talk through the trade-offs for your site and budget before quoting.

Approvals in NSW
Some outdoor structures can be built as exempt development if they meet every standard in the NSW Codes SEPP; others need a complying development certificate (CDC) or a DA from your council. Rules depend on size, height, setbacks and lot constraints such as heritage, bushfire or flood. Check your address on the NSW Planning Portal, and we will flag anything we notice when we quote.

FAQ
Common questions
Do I need council approval for a deck in NSW?
Many small, low decks can be built as exempt development under the NSW Codes SEPP if they meet every standard (size, height above ground, setbacks and more). Larger or higher decks, or properties with heritage, bushfire or flood constraints, usually need a CDC or DA. Check your address on the NSW Planning Portal, and we will flag anything we notice when quoting.
How much does a new deck cost?
It depends on size, height, board choice, access and the ground. We do not publish set prices because two decks of the same size can differ a lot. Send photos and rough sizes for a free written quote.
Can you match new boards to my existing deck?
Usually, yes. We cut new boards on site to sit with the existing section, and we will tell you upfront if an exact colour match is not possible until the timber weathers or is oiled.
